A Guatemalan rum, Ron Zacapa Centenario XO Rum Solera Gran Reserva Especial is a very desirable dark rum that saw a Gold win at the International Rum festival among other awards, including Platinum in the Super Premium category in 2002! The nose is very complex, with notes of brown sugar, molasses, calf leather, bourbon, cedar wood, pipe tobacco, chocolate, fruit and brandy butter. As I f that weren’t enough, then comes the palate, with notes of intense brown sugar, spiced oak, toffee, more pipe tobacco and more cedar. A long finish that is very warming with sweet and spicy notes. Just divine.

Zacapa XO is an ultra-premium rum containing a blend of rums aged between 6 and 25 years old, with an extra ageing stage in French oak barrels that previously held cognac to reveal more dark cherry and spicy characteristics. Zacapa is made from only the sweetest first crush virgin sugar cane honey, rather than molasses, and is aged in a series of casks that previously held American Whiskies, Oloroso Sherry, Pedro Ximenez wines and cognac in a unique process called the Sistema Solera.
