Blood Meridian, or the Evening Redness in the West is a 2001 live-action film directed by Ridely Scott based on the book of the same name by acclaimed author Cormac McCarthy. Set in the 1850s, it follows the unnamed "Kid", who falls in with a gang of scalp hunters and is led down into madness. The film was released to mixed critical reception but has since become a cult classic. An NC-17 film, it was notable for the large amounts of violence which it had carried over in large part from the book
